IYM CORP: DISTINCTIVE MOUTHPIECES
IYM CORP was created in 1990 to provide specialized services to the high school, collegiate and drum corps worlds of music groups. It began by developing advanced recording techniques for broadcast quality recordings of large groups such as choirs and marching bands.
The demanding conditions of working outdoors of performances on a football field, in stereo were challenging enough but it all had to be preserved with just ONE take and no do-overs.
IYM’s reputation developed for solving challenges. While successfully reintroducing the legendary RUDY MUCK Original Classic mouthpieces, IYM was asked to develop another mouthpiece to overcome the much-criticised marching mellophone intonation.
After much research, IYM determined that the solution lay in the mouthpiece, not the horn design. IYM’s distinctive Mellophone mouthpiece overcame the sometimes-harsh sound of this instrument and made it in-tune in all registers. The IYM Mellophone mouthpiece transformed a once-maligned instrument into a legitimate voice in the brass choir.
Soon, other requests came to address the challenges of other brass instruments. Further information of those mouthpieces are available on this site as well as an order form for purchase.
IYM mouthpieces have been used by professional and amateur musicians at all levels. Users include winners of championships in the DCI and DCA in the drum corps activity. Our mouthpieces over the past 12 years have been the items of choice for most of the Grand National Bands of America winners AND a majority of the top 12 bands in the championships.
Also, the top chairs at the College/University and High School levels All State and Honors Bands in many states have been using IYM mouthpieces since their introduction.
IYM has helped many bands achieve great success and a great sound.
